Sustainable House in Dunaujvaros by ZSK Architects

Completed in 2010 by ZSK Architects, this lovely contemporary home is situated in Dunaujvaros, an industrial city in Hungary. It is called House in Dunaujvaros and it features 1,937 square feet of living spaces, spread over two floors.

The residence is located in a newly developed residential area, but the surrounding houses are pretty ordinary, with nothing to help them stand out from the crowd. This was not a very encouraging place to build something entirely new and revolutionary, so the architects tried to feed their imagination from the history of the area.

This region used to be an agricultural place with whitewashed farmhouses and tiled roofs. Also, this area had a rich industrial background, which also inspired the architects with great ideas. Finally, they decided to go with brick masonry, which evoked both old factories and traditional barns. They also used galvanized steel for sun protection elements. Finally, they decided to give all facades a lovely whitewashed look.

House in Dunaujvaros was also built in a quite eco-friendly manner, using sustainable solutions. These include thick masonry and ventilation gap behind the reused brick cladding, biomass fireplace with hot water circulation system, sliding expanded metal sun protection, and invisible vacuum tube sun collectors on the rooftop.
