Set on an abrupt plot in Calpe, Alicante, Spain, the beautiful House on the Cliff was designed by Fran Silvestre Arquitectos. It is a 2,600+ residence with stunning sea views and minimalist interiors by Alfaro Hofmann. The building follows the topography of the site, respecting the natural contour of the land, and the inviting swimming pool is like a reiteration of the beautiful shimmering waters in the distance.

I am captivated by how the pool mirrors the distant sea. How does the minimalist interior palette change throughout the day as the cliff’s shadow shifts? I’d love to know more about the material choices that keep such a massive structure feeling so light.
The interior palette shifts from warm ochres to cool greys as the shadow moves, creating a dynamic rhythm. We used lightweight concrete and vast glass panels to reduce visual weight, allowing the structure to appear suspended against the cliff face while maintaining structural integrity.
