Completed in 2009 by Metcalfe Architecture & Design, the two-story Spence House is a lovely contemporary home in Cornwall, Connecticut. Its owner used to live in Manhattan, but decided to leave the busy city and move to a more quiet and tranquil place in the Housatonic River Valley.
The first architecture company that she hired for the project failed to meet her expectations, so she decided to contact Metcalfe Architecture & Design and ask them to finish the job. When this happened , the foundation was already poured, making the project a little more challenging. However, the new team did a wonderful job, creating a sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces that give the house a warm and inviting character.
Since the house is partially tucked into a small hill, the entrance leads directly onto the second floor, where large windows invite plenty of natural light to flood the spaces. Natural wood finishes combined with warm hues and several splashes of bright colors make this home a calm and happy place to live in.
