The X-House in Barcelona, Spain was completed in 2012 by the Barcelona-based architects Cadaval & Solà-Morales. It has acquired its unique x-shape due to its location on a very steep slope and as a result of solving various challenges provided by the terrain.
The X-House is a constructive exploration that uses bridges and tunnels and incorporates efficiency and reduction of costs. The excessive use of concrete allows projecting the material at a high pressure to a single-sided formwork and to provide structural resistance.
The site on which the project is located provides remarkable views and can be accessed from a single street on the top of the site.
This home consists of two floors: the top floor which incorporates parking and allows access to the house, also being conceived as a private suite of the owners; and the lower level where there can be made a clear distinction between the front and the rear of the house.
