The SD house is a minimalist north oriented home with a modern façade located in Edmonton, Canada, which was designed by thirdstone inc. in collaboration with Habitat Studio & Workshop.
The front side of the building impresses by the double-height central volume emphasized by an elongated aperture that protects the front entrance. The west side of the remaining façade is flanked by outdoor terraces on the first and upper levels.
The exterior finishes are embellished by a palette of glass, metal, ipe and tepid charcoal walls. The kitchen, dining and living spaces are all mixed together and offer view of the tree-lined rear garden. The interior space is flooded with natural light due to the floor-to-ceiling windows, which offer, in the same time, visual connection in the evening in order to remain connected with the outdoor space.
Both the second floor and the private wing can be accessed by a sculptural steel and open-riser staircase. The private wing includes the bedrooms, the washrooms, the cozy sanctum, a roof terrace and an exercise room with great views.
