Completed in 2009 by Smertnik Kraut Architekten, this 3,832 square foot contemporary residence is located in Sankt Martin, Klagenfurt, Austria. It is located near Lake Wörthersee, and it is surrounded by vegetation, being very well protected from prying eyes. It is not visible from the main street, but a narrow private road ensures easy access to this secluded and peaceful haven called House S.
The building is placed on an elevated lot, so the architects created the main living area on the upper floor to ensure better views of city and nearby mountains. The thick vegetation around the house keeps the lower level slightly more hidden. Consequently, the ground floor holds only the garage, a large foyer, and a small individual apartment. As the pictures in the gallery clearly show, openness and light are two key elements in this project.
