The concept for this Twenty-Nine Design residence in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was to keep every tree on the terrain in its place. The architects got their inspiration from the word ‘hijau”, a Malay word signifying the green color. They kept their promise to nature despite having to deal with a small lot in a residential site.
What resulted was a two-level house, with the upper level featuring large outside glass walls. Natural light enters easily inside the home but it’s filtered by the trees that surround it and by timber screens. The courtyard is the main element of the residence with a peacefully looking swimming pool and a white terrace.
The main materials for this project were concrete and wood. The white concrete blocs are interrupted by wood elements like the deck that connects the pool to the entrance.
On the inside, this home is spacious and kept simple without over-crowding with furniture. The glass walls offer a view over the vegetation outside. The stairs have a glass balustrade and the staircase has a double-height glass window.
This is a breathable environment perfect for relaxation in the middle of nature.
