One of the biggest challenges of this project was to find a way to harmoniously integrate a contemporary home into a traditional landscape. The 3,336 square foot residence is located in Going am Wilden Kaiser, Austria, in an area where modern homes can hardly be seen, even among new constructions.
The traditional and idyllic feel of this region is exactly what attracts visitors every year. In order to avoid altering the regional authenticity of the place, architect Mark Neuner and Mostlikely Architecture finally decided that the best source of inspiration for this project would be that of local barns.
They consequently started focusing on the typology of the barn with open hayloft. This was a much better source of inspiration than the traditional famers’ homes with poor lighting and compact layouts. As a result, The Barn is a wonderful modern residence that looks fresh yet very familiar in this lovely Austrian town.
