What could be fancier than a hotel located in a seventeenth century palace right in the heart of old Mexico City? The Downtown Mexico is a luxurious hotel designed by Cherem Serrano Arquitectos who created a perfect mixture of contemporary luxury and the classic architecture, providing comfortable and private lodging for the guests.
The Mexican vice regal style of the building is provided by the red volcanic rock walls, the numerous doors, the window quarry frames and the unique handmade cement tiles.
If the access floor welcomes you to an interior patio, the ground floor provides two other inner courtyards that have the role of separating the spaces and allowing natural light and ventilation into the hotel.
The icing on the cake is the restaurant with the pool on the rooftop from where panoramic views can be enjoyed.

How did Cherem Serrano Arquitectos balance preserving the historic elements with integrating modern luxury? I’m curious about the design challenges they faced in adapting a seventeenth-century palace for today’s guests.
Cherem Serrano Arquitectos carefully preserved key historic features while introducing modern amenities discreetly. They faced challenges in updating infrastructure without compromising original architecture, achieving a seamless blend of heritage and contemporary luxury for a unique guest experience.
