Iron Ant Farm House by Xrange Architects

The Ant Farm House was designed by Taipei-based Xrange Architects.  This is an “extreme” new house of outrageous proportions which preserves an existing indigenous stone house.

The newly added rooms are small, narrow and vertical interlocking like the spaces within an ant colony.

This new house shaped as a steel box frame, acts as lateral structural bracing for the existing stone house.

The window openings were modeled after the new spaces and are meandering around the new façade.

Through the overlapping new and old windows, views of surrounding mountains and of the city below can be accessed.
