Text description provided by the architects. An exclusive fashion boutique at AZULIK Tulum merges fashion, design, architecture, jewelry, and art within a space rich in contrasts, textures, sensations, and pathways that encourage exploration of the store’s collections.
The design honors the existing trees, adapting the structure to the natural terrain, inviting visitors to walk barefoot on the polished concrete surface, featuring pathways and ramps over reflective water, tunnels of natural foliage, areas with nets, and indoor greenery.
The building, constructed with wood sourced from the Yucatan Peninsula, including jiles and bejuco, is crafted by Mayan artisans, reflecting the surrounding jungle environment. These methods utilize local materials and techniques, uncovering the potential of the region’s natural, cultural, and human resources; driven by a strong commitment to sustainability and the respect for indigenous knowledge.
The primary principle of the design is to honor nature, which has existed before humanity and will continue after. The commitment to preserving all trees within the area allowed for construction that respects and learns from the natural environment.
The warmth and texture of the materials integrate the jungle as a tangible element of the project, reflected in various scales, details, surface layers, and structures that encompass the interior space.
