The Tranquil Storrs Road Residence by Tim Stewart Architects

Set on a beautiful 18-hectare site, the Storrs Road Residence is a remarkable environmentally conscious residence, built for a family which has owned the property for almost three decades. The owners used to have an orchard on the site, and an older home, but as they approached retirement, they decided to mark the changes in their lifestyle by making some significant alterations to their property.

Consequently, they contacted Tim Stewart Architects, and asked them to build a new home, a single-story contemporary residence. Completed in 2008, the house is located in Peachester, Queensland, Australia. An important element of the property is the lovely courtyard garden, a little spot of natural beauty that keeps the owners’ passion for agriculture alive. Even though it is a mainly decorative element, the courtyard also features herbs, tomatoes and other vegetables.

Considerably more nature-friendly than the original home, the Storrs Road Residence uses low energy lighting, eco-sourced timber, solar water heating, and has more than 60,000 liters of water storage. Permanently connected with the superb environment through large windows and floor-to-ceiling glass walls, this house is a wonderful haven of tranquility and relaxation.
