Private Balmain House by Fox Johnston

The Balmain House located in Sydney, Australia was designed by Fox Johnston. It features simple, functional, generous, private and light-filled living spaces, especially created for a young family.

In order to create the illusion of a larger site, it was used the small block, setting in this way a dialogue between the garden space and the interior living areas.

The main bedroom, the ensuite, the library/gallery and the study are incorporated in a faceted timber volume which floats above the ground plane.

The upstairs area was beautifully organized in order to open the house to sunlight and ventilation and to offer views to garden vistas and the harbor.

It’s an eco-friendly home, that’s why the architects took into account reducing energy usage, a natural ventilation system, hydronic heating and recycled and sustainable building products.
