The Brown Residence is designed by Lake|Flato Architects and is set in Scottsdale, Arizona. The entire property brings to focus the desert and the architects made sure the views from the house have this as a reference point and not the houses in the neighborhood.
Since the dwelling is set on a slopping terrain, one might see this as a problem, but these architects saw it as a challenge. The downhill site is incorporated into the house design and creates generous areas inside. Double-height glass walls to the exterior make sure that natural light floods the living spaces while also creating a connection to the pool and garden. The extended rooftop shelters the house from the desert sun.
The terrace near the swimming pool was designed as a social space with relaxing chairs and an open fireplace.
