Contemporary Private House by Strom Architects

This lovely Private House was designed by Peter Guthrie for Strom Architects on a 2.5 ha property that still holds the ruins of an old burnt house. It is located in Suffolk, and it represents a modern interpretation of the local “long cottage”-style homes of the nearby village.

Because the building was located on the edge of a flood zone, the architects raised it on a 5 foot base. This generated the need for a bridge to provide access to the house. The bridge also ensures safe egress in case of floods.

The owners asked for a nice and welcoming country house in which dwellers and guests could unwind, contemplate and regenerate. To obtain this special ambiance, the architects did not eliminate the ruins and the existing pool but kept them and beautifully integrated them into the new landscape.
